Description: Garfield County CGS OFR-02-12 Areas of high, good, moderate, and low resource potential were outlined on the basis of existing geologic maps by the Colorado Geological Survey. Mapped geologic units were field checked and several samples were collected and sieved to assist with characterization of the potential resources. This study was completed within ten 1:24,000K quadrangles adjacent to the Colorado River Valley in Garfield County, CO. This layer includes the published ArcGIS files provided in the publication: Widmann, B.L., 2002, Sand and Gravel Resources Adjacent to the Colorado River Valley, Garfield County, Colorado, Colorado Geological Survey Open File Report 02-12, Plate 1, http://coloradogeologicalsurvey.org/. • Colorado River Valley Sand and Gravel Resources, Garfield County.shp – This layer includes the combined shapefiles from the original study entitled cat1.shp, cat1a.shp, cat2.shp, cat3.shp, cat3a.shp, cat4.shp, and cat4a.shp. Field name aliases were updated to be more informational. Also, categories and descriptions were combined to make the data set clearer to the user. • Sample Locations, samples.shp – This layer includes the original shapefile with updated field name aliases and additional added fields containing the sieve sample results included on the hard copy of the original map. • County Streams (streams_clp.shp), 2001 active gravel permits (gravel_active_perm.shp), and 2001 all permits (gravelpitsall.shp) – These layers were included in the original publication and provide the streams, 2001 active gravel mining permits, and all 2001 mining permits.
