Description: This publication presents a new digital bedrock geologic map of the Upper Cretaceous to Paleogene sedimentary rocks of the Denver Basin. Outcrop traces on the bedrock geologic map represent intersections of structure maps with a ten-meter resolution digital terrain model of bedrock topography. The terrain model of bedrock topography removes thick deposits of Quaternary alluvium in order to provide accurate subcrop patterns where younger deposits conceal bedrock. In addition to the geologic map, this publication includes five structure maps made on selected stratigraphic horizons, and four isopach maps covering selected stratigraphic intervals. Three cross-sections illustrating basin geometry and depositional patterns complement the maps. In addition, three paleogeographic maps portray regional depositional patterns at selected time intervals. See the accompanying report for full information. The feature classes listed below are included in the geodatabases. Description: Contours are based on gephysical log interpretations of 123 wells on the east side of the Denver Basin. Top is defined by an inflection in the resistivity trace at the top of the interval containing more sand and silt layers.
Description: The top pick is made on an inflection in resistivity above the interval of Laramie Fm that has more sand layers. The trace was generated by intersecting a raster of the top of the Laramie with a DEM adjusted for alluvial thickness. The Raster of the top was generated using the 2011 top of Fox Hills Sandstone model by Dechesne et al (2011) and adding the thickness of Lower Laramie values.

Description: Product includes new outcrop traces for the Denver Basin bedrock aquifers which consist of surface, or near-surface exposures, and subcrop traces beneath thick alluvium. Outcrop and sub-crop patterns have been adjusted to account for thick Quaternary deposits where present. For the Laramie-Fox Hills aquifer, and the base of the Arapahoe aquifer, traces have been generated using subsurface control points constrained by surface geologic outcrop control. Maps are available as GIS shapefiles. The maps can be easily modified in a working GIS environment whenever new data, such as new alluvial thickness values, become available.

Description: Top of Laramie Formation or Base of D1 (Synorgogenic strata) intersected with the subcrop (a 10m DEM with the thickness of Qal subtracted). This boundary coincides with the base of the Arapahoe Aquifer on the west side of the Denver Basin. Towards the east side of the basin the net sand decreases rapidly and aquifer quality diminishes. Part of the Aquifer Boundary outlines (outcrop) and subcrop traces of the Denver Basin Aquifers. Aquifer Boundaries were calculated by interpolating geophysical well log data and structure contour data to a continuous grid in ArcGIS. The resulting structure surface was then intersected with a DEM via the raster calculator (ESRI Spatial Analyst). The structure data were intersected with both a 10 m DEM that was unaltered and a DEM with the alluvial thickness subtracted. This method reveals the expected outcrop trace (when intersected with the regular DEM) and the subcrop trace (when intersected with a DEM that is corrected for the thickness of the alluvium)

Description: Location and geometry of sills and dikes based on series of investigations in the 1950s by USGS geologist focused on the geology and coal resources of the area and produced at a scale of 1:31,680. Information from four geologic maps pertinent to the study area were georeferenced and digiitzed from the published paper plates. Geologic information in areas not covered by the 1950s series were acquired from Johnson's (1969) 1:250,000 scale geologic map of the Trinidad Quadrangle. Vector information includes: sills , and dikes.
